Sadly the Solvang Farmer closed down this year so we weren’t
able to get our pumpkins there this year. Instead we went to Summerset Farms in
Santa Ynez and picked out our pumpkins. The weekend before Halloween we
attended the Shins’ family annual Pumpkin Carving Party and for Halloween this
year Grandma and Grandpa Mok came down to join in on the trick-or-treating fun.
Tyler dressed up as one of the pit crew for Lightning McQueen and was very
excited about getting lots and lots of candy.
We spent Thanksgiving in
Phoenix with Bill’s family. The drive out was a nightmare as it seemed that all
of California was on the road at the same time. The trip normally takes us only
8 hours, but this time it took us close to 12 hours to get to Bill’s brother
Jimmy’s house. Tyler was such a trooper through the whole ordeal, but I think
we all got a little loopy after sitting in the car for that long. We ended up
leaving Phoenix a day earlier than we planned in order to avoid the same
problem driving back to California. Bill’s new stepmother Gracie cooked her
first Thanksgiving dinner for the family which was excellent. The day after
Thanksgiving we went out riding on quads in the desert out near Grandpa Rose’s
new house. Due to the rain earlier in the week the ground was still pretty
muddy and Alana and Tyler ended up getting covered in it after riding around in
the buggy. It didn’t seem to bother Tyler though since he kept telling Alana
that he didn’t want to stop. “Go Mama! Go! Go! Go!” We also checked out a local
Phoenix mall that had a shop called Ridemakerz. Think of it as a Build-A-Bear
workshop, but instead of building a bear you’re building your own car. Tyler
was in complete heaven (as was Bill). He walked away with a blue Ford Mustang
that looked very close to Grandpa Rose’s car. At the mall they also had a pile
of “snow” that the kids were playing in. Tyler had a ball throwing snowballs at
both Mama and Daddy and didn’t want to stop even though his hands were icicles
by the end. He is now obsessed with snow and keeps telling us he wants to go
play in the snow. One of these days we’ll have to head to Mammoth or something
to give him a true taste of the snow.
